Hello,

I have family visiting soon, and we were thinking it would be fun to rent a 4x4 and tool around in the desert or mountains a bit. Does anyone know if there are any rental places near Phoenix? Something near cabin rentals would be ideal. I did try googling, but am not having much luck (just found one place in Sedona).

Thanks!

Are you thinking a jeep?
Or a quad/ rhino type vehicle.
A jeep would be ideal, and you would be street legal also.
What part of az do you want to see?

Check out Barlow Jeep Rental in Sedona. They run about 200 for a half day and 300 for an overnight. Plenty of cabin rentals in Sedona too.

While you're probably not supposed to take them offroad, I would be tempted to rent a Wrangler from a random rental car company. If you're not interested in going up to Sedona, Tonto is much closer to home and has some great offroad trails that should be accessible by any 4x4 with decent ground clearance. I think a stock Wrangler would cut it.

when traveling far from home, I've rented many a so-called "SUV" from the major rental agencies because of planned off-road travel....while most of these trips went fine, rental SUVs usually have stock passenger-quality tires and less-than-perfect capability on rougher roads....in fact, some contracts say "no off-pavement travel"!.....make sure you have a spare and the gear and knowledge to change a flat....and wash the vehicle before you return it.....

most of the major car rental agencies have SUVs in their fleet, in various sizes.....
