Hi, we just moved to the area. Do people in Chandler recommend installing a water softener? Pros/cons? Any brand or company recommendations? Thanks so much.

Yes, you need a water softener. The grunge on your dishes, sinks, taps and glass shower enclosures will tell you that within a month or so.

Your wife will also notice that her shampoo doesn't work and her hair looks like crap within days. Save yourself the agony and get one ASAP.

I'll leave others to recommend specifics, except to say I'd stay away from Sears.

I also think you need a water softener. This is the company we got ours through and they did a great job and we've been very happy. They happen to be located in Chandler.

I've gotten along without one for almost all the time I've spent here (we're talking several decades) . Others seem to think they can't live without them. It's up to you.

It's not something you need to run right out and get as soon as you move in somewhere.

Do you guys have the ones that leave you feeling slimey like in hotels, or is it the better, non-slimey kind? Please none of this "those are your natural oils" BS.

Never used a water softener ever, but to each their own if you must have to go for it.

All water softeners using salt or potassium will feel slimy. You do get used to it.

That's what I don't like about them.

I agree. I find the slimy feeling is minimized when using potassium over salt. IMO, it's better than having calcium stains all over everything and shortening the life of your appliances though.

I'm looking for a softener as well. Can anyone else give recommendations for local service and type of unit?

Mine is 8 years old and smells like an old shoe. I've had it serviced 3 times in the past 9 months and they say it's time to replace.
