I'll be working in the Grandview Rd. area (Northern Phoenix/eastern edge) and I've heard Bell Rd. is a mess a rush hour and has some dangerous intersections such as Bell & 17, 83rd&Bell, 91st and Bell and so on. Might it be better for me to go about 1 mile South of Bell to Greenway Rd and then back up to Bell later around the 67th Ave. area. (final destination going toward Arrowhead center, western Glendale, or the edge of Peoria) Thanks

Bell is one of those rare roads that can be worse on the weekends, but I'm sure it carries a lot of traffic during the rush hours too. You might be better off going a bit out of your way and using the 101. Greenway doesn't have as many lanes, and, if memory serves, doesn't go all the way through to where you need to go on the west side. Try all three and see which works best.

I agree with observer53 - you are probably better off heading up to the 101 for the commute if you are going that far. Bell Road is a commercial corridor with tons of traffic lights and stop and go traffic. Greenway is also stop and go, not all commercial but has fewer lanes in spots. But just for gits and shizzles, why not plug your commute into Google Maps "Get Directions" and try a few different routes - it will tell you the distance and roughly how long it will take.

Bell Road is the busiest arterial in the state of Arizona. The combination of the lights and sheer volume can make Bell a huge headache. Take the 101.

The 101 would be my first choice. I'd avoid Bell Rd as much as possible, unless you like stopping at traffic lights a lot, and there are definitely a lot of them on Bell. Greenway Parkway/Rd. has less traffic lights and you can probably time yourself to hit most of the green lights, but the parkway ends at 19th Ave and you'll have less lanes going west. That's why the 101 would be my choice.

I drove on Bell Rd. in my daily commute in the late 1980s until early 1993, from 25th Ave & Greenway when I worked in north Scottsdale near Scottsdale Airport, before the 101 was built, and back then it was much easier to drive on it.

Wow I didn't know that. I always thought Camelback was crazy all the time and especially in the evening

Always take Greenway to avoid the traffic on Bell if you can. Either that or hop on the 101 if you need to move west faster than just at a snail's pace.
