Anyone have suggestions for areas to fish in the valley? I've gone a few times to ASU research park, but never caught anything.

East valley, preferred

Riverview Park and Red Mountain Park are both nice, both in Mesa. I don't know what you're looking for these are little, stocked, man-made ponds inside parks. I've chaperoned some school field trips and seen some kids catch fish.

Papago Park by the zoo is really nice. Three medium sized ponds with a stream flowing from the top one to the bottom. Nice red rock hills around in a desert park. The ponds have interesting shapes too, makes it a place you can find a nice little spot to cast thats not too crowded, sometimes.

Tempe Town Lake is NOT part of the Urban Fishing Program. Quote from the Tempe.gov website:

Town Lake is considered a state fishing water, therefore, the Class U (Urban Fishing) license is not valid.

Kiwanis is where I've had the most luck. Caught a decent sized small mouth bass once. The only problem with Kiwanis is that a lot of people know it's a good place to fish and can get a bit crowded. I've had to get up at dawn to claim a good spot and then still end up with people setting up right next to me.

I'm not positive but I think Riverview might be closed down. I know the golf course is closed for good to make way for the new Cubs spring training development. I was under the impression the pond area was part of this. I haven't been by there recently to see.
