Hi Everyone: I will be visiting Phx in December and need advice if the following areas are safe to stay in (Hotel/Motel) and if there is any place to purchase Native American Jewelry at a discount? My friend is convinced that I am going to be able to find her some discounted or reasonably priced NA Jewelry. I have no idea even where to look. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Areas where I may stay:

2735 W. Sweetwater Ave, I-17 Btwn Thunderbird-Cactus, Phoenix, AZ 21636

North 26th Avenue, I-17 and Deer Valley Road, Phoenix, AZ 85027 US

8130 N Black Canyon Hwy, I-17 & Northern, Phoenix, AZ 85051-4867 US

12027 North 28th Drive, Cactus Road I 17 Exit 209, Phoenix, AZ 85029 US

17211 N. Black Canyon Hwy, Phoenix, AZ 85023 US

I haven't seen too much NA jewerly in Phoenix it self, besides some heavily over-priced stores in the mall. Be careful, there are a lot of scams surrounding NA jewerly and much of it is overpriced when you hit the "side of the road" stands. I know in Sedona just north of town as you're heading up the 89 there is a dairy queen and there are always about 10 stands selling misc. jewerly.

As for the areas to stay in, I would personally only recommend this one:

North 26th Avenue, I-17 and Deer Valley Road, Phoenix, AZ 85027 US

The others are more in metro phoenix, lots of traffic, not the best area to be visiting. The location above is just north the 101 in Phoenix, it's a great area with a lot of easy access to the freeways.

Have you ever been near Metrocenter mall? If you consider that "safe" then you must walk around with a .45 and some Moderator cut: snip confidence.

I will be driving in from Tucson and like to find hotels/motels once I am in an area so I can see the surroundings. Should I be looking above Rt 101? Will I find others along 1-17 near and above North 26th Avenue, I-17 and Deer Valley Road,?

I just spent two days near there last week for a conference. Never had a problem, been spending time in that area off and on over the last 20 years. When was the last time you were in the Metrocenter area? Moderator cut: snip

What do you want to see while you are here? I-17 and Deer Valley Road is a nice area, but a long way from most of the stuff that people want to see and do while they are visiting the area. You won't find much north of Deer Valley Road, DV Road is already on the fringe of the metro area. Past that you have a few exurb communities (ex. Anthem) and empty desert.

I-17 and Dunlap. It has a cluster of hotels/motels, conference centers, chain restaurants, office buildings, etc.

I have a multi-purpose trip. First I want to explore Phoenix, N Central and North and NE near Scottsdale for a possible retirement relocation. Second, I want to explore the desert around Phoenix.

Any suggestions for must see things while in the Valley?
