Hi everyone....

I'm looking for a recommendation for a place where I can purchase window blinds & also have them installed for me...... Or if it's best to get a handyman to install I can split the finances that way & buy them to have someone locally install --

I also have some plumbing issues - slow drain in kitchen.... need valve put onto a water line that goes to frig, water heater pressure release valve needs routing a different way ~ and perhaps run gas through kitchen to the cook top area for future use... So if you can recommend a plumber locally that would be great too - I'm in Phoenix & don't know whether to give into using Home Depot for these things - so I thought I'd ask you....

Angie's list so far hasn't helped me all that much for one reason or another

Thank you - you can PM me if that's the way to do the plumber thing - not sure how that works....

I'll be in the house by Halloween --- :-)

Thumbs up Home Depot was my choice and I'd do it again!

I'm a fairly new resident to the East Valley and purchased my blinds, 14 of them, at Home Depot and had their installer put them in. The entire process was a pleasant buying experience. The installer came out and did all the measurements and called it in to my local home depot. I then picked out my blinds which were in stock so they could custom cut them and I picked them up the same day. The installer then came to put them in a few days later and they look great. There was a slight extra charge for trimming the blinds to the proper length but it was worth it. I would have botched it up for sure. I have no hesitation in recommending HD and their crew.

Can't help you on the plumber issue, though. I haven't needed one yet. (fingers remain tightly crossed).

you may be able to get blinds off the rack that are 1/4" smaller than the window opening for 5 bucks each or so. The only one in my whole house that was even a bit messed up, was the one they cut at HD (they ripped a corner on the last piece).

Get a handyman to do the waterline and relief line. You can actually use pvc for the drain line on the hwh. Call SWG for the name of a recommended gas contractor. (unless it is less than 6 feet, then let same handyman do it.)

Default Thank you!

I did see all those blinds, shades and shutters at HD -- I have a blind/shade company coming out today - they do want to sell fancier things than what I'm after - could tell that on the phone....but I'll take their figures and compare to the prices at HD... Basically want something I don't have to clean - when I lived on the ocean all my new wooden blinds had black mold on them and they were white! What a mess....in a years time they were about ruined. The HD near my new place has been really helpful - but the one close to where I live now - not so much - the new one they are eager to help - the other one I can wander in a department for what seems forever and no one offers help... it seems in fact they avoid human contact for whatever reason!

I haven't ever used a handyman before so wasn't sure if they snake drains or not - sounds like they might? I bought two book cases that need assembly - now that job I'd hire out in an instant - so I guess I'll see what the handyman says on the phone about that as well!

Thank you very much

When you buy the cheap blinds, you can throw them away, instead of cleaning........Do you have slow drain or a complete back-up?

After quite a bit of shopping around locally, I ended up buying "top of the line" Hunter Douglas Faux Wood Blinds at American Blinds Blinds - Window Blinds - Window Shades & Treatments | Americanblinds.com and installing them myself.

Measuring and installation was fairly basic and I saved big bucks over the bargain stuff at Big Box Stores and other retailers.

If I can do it . . . anyone can.

What part of town are you in? You should specify, because most workman won't cover the entire Phoenix metro area.

I just went through a whole thing about window blinds - for me, repairs. I think I'd use a handyman rather than pay for the store's installation. One place you might call for an estimate is Three Day Blinds, which was recommended to me, although I don't know how relevant the recommendation was.

A real handyman wouldn't have a snake. But are you sure you need one? If the drain is just slow, something like Ten Minute Clog might do the trick. Also, I recently had a problem for which is turned out I needed a drain specialist, which was cheaper than a plumber. I may have his name somewhere, if that's what you need.

Benjamin Franklin plumbing has been good for us on the rare occasions we've used them.

It really does help if you give some GENERAL idea of where you live "in the valley". Of course, beyond Angie's List there is also KUDZU and ye old Craigslist. My husband uses a guy near our area but, I doubt he would consider going too far for a few routine (handyman) type jobs - at least not without a trip charge!!

Default General area

Hi again

General area is 85028 zip which is the 51/Shea area

I found a plumber --- and it was through the blinds guy - I guess there's a professional networking orgaznization or club - and the blinds guy had a number of cards in a portfolio and snapped out all the ones I might need... so I tried one guy , then another and then another - and they all know each other from these meetings and social events they do together --- Then had a pest person and on down the line...

I still will be looking for a local handyman person - to tackle the to-do list that is growing - seems the more you get done - the more there is to do! But the plumbing issues all worked out!!!! One by one - things are getting done...

Thank you so much for your helps and concern
