I lost my job about three months ago, and I had to move back home to Florida with my parents....

I so miss Tempe, it's a great little city. Hold on tight to what you've got there, it's a gem.

Peace...

I lost my job in MI back in '08 and had to move in with my folks in PA. That lasted 18 months. Saved some money, paid off my car and fled ghastly Scranton. Fulfilled a 22 year dream and moved to Tempe (in Phoenix now).

There's light at the end. You'll be back one day. Good luck.

Best of luck to you, Jamajo. Things are tough for so many people, so sorry you've hit a bad patch.

This a pretty common theme. People don't appreciate the Valley until they leave. A lot of people who disliked this place move back or want to.

Smile You'll be home before you know it.......

Work your butt off, save your money and don't incur ANY debt. If you want it bad enough, you can be back in Tempe before you know it.

I also hear this quite a bit from friends who move away from the area thinking "the grass is always greener on the other side". I've known people who moved to Seattle, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, and many other places. Initially most are ecstatic to go somewhere different and get away from Phoenix. I'd say about half of the people I know who moved, have come back within 5 years because they discovered Phoenix really is a great area to live and they miss various things that they took for granted- the scenery, driving roads without potholes, the ease of getting around, etc.

I know a few who moved away for job reasons and the the ones I still talk to say they plan on moving back once they retire or are trying to get transferred back into the area.

Phoenix, like every city, has it's share of problems but it really is a great place to live.

I left Phoenix 12 years ago and moved to Richmond, VA. Back then I was an extremely negative person and found every reason to hate the area. Now I am in a much better place, and I feel as if I could enjoy living there now. It'll be at least two years before I can move, though, since I am back in school working on my full certification for Special Ed.

I've lived in a lot of different places and even if I could move, I wouldn't. You simply can't beat the phoenix area. I hope you come back home soon.

People here always complain about the weather but seriously, thats when you know we got it good. I love being able to complain about something so minute as the weather. When I was in California I was complaining about getting laid off and not being able to afford anything... So this is a nice change! If this is the only thing to complain about here, we need to look at how badly most of the rest of our country is doing and hug a cactus lol. While I do realize being laid off is the reason of the OP's post, it's not as common as it is in a lot of other parts. Keep looking, you'll find something here and get back out here!
