Hi,

I am relocating to AZ from CA and am looking at the South Tempe area. My husband will be working in South Tempe and we have 2 small children so the most important things to me are safe, family orientated neighborhoods. I have read through many threads here and that is why I am concentrating on this area because it will not only be close to work, but has the Kyrene school district for the kids.

I would love any feedback anyone has on specific apartment complexes in this area or in the part of Chandler that is close to South Tempe. We are going to rent first since we are new to the area and will need a 2 bedroom around the $800 range.

I don't know prices as I don't rent, but I live in south Tempe and would think you'd be able to find any number of complexes in either south Tempe or the part of Chandler that adjoins Tempe and is still in Kyrene district. Safe, family oriented areas are the rule, not the exception, in those locations.

There's not a whole lot of apartment complexes in south tempe other than those on Elliot and Grove parkway. I would avoid those and look south a couple miles to the complexes in chandler on Ray Road and Chandler boulevard. I would also stay West of the 101 freeway.

There are apartments in south Tempe (it depends on how you define "south", I guess! ) There are a lot of them just on the Chandler side of the Chandler/Tempe border, as asufan suggests, that would be definitely worth a look.

My husband and I lived in a Mark-Taylor (Arizona Apartments | Mark-Taylor Residential | Phoenix Luxury Apartment Homes) complex a few years ago, and were very pleased with the experience. Also, a friend lives at one of the Camden (Camden Property Search (http://apartments.camdenliving.com/AptSearchResult.aspx - broken link)) properties, and that one's also very nice. Both companies have complexes scattered throughout the valley. Good luck!

True. I define South Tempe as Elliot Road and South, because that's where the demographics really start to change. Maybe South of the canal that runs between Guadaluoe and Elliot Roads. All those apartments on Baseline and even Grove are crawling with ASU students. The apartments in West Chandler are more suburban.

Here is the best way to find out whats best for you:

there is a website apartmentratings
Look in their search page & the map gives you location along with points (0 - 100%)
look into the most recent reviews and decide accordingly

Some care needs to be taken with using the ratings on that website. People tend not to post positive ratings, only negative ones, and the reliability/accuracy of many of the complaints, to me, is suspect. Use the site to find locations in your price range, but then go visit and see for yourself. Talk to residents, if you can.
