mostly family oriented. not much action for single, younger people. decent commute into Philadelphia for more nightlife if you want it.

Drexel Hill has a good mix of middle and upper middle class suburban housing. One of the nicer near burbs, very comfortable environment for kids/familes like thesixth said.

This. It tends to be mostly blue collar and somewhat inward looking (like many places in greater philadelphia). By that I mean that it has a particular flavor of local culture different from some of the other areas in it's and surrounding counties which tends to bring the people closer together. In many cases, families have known each other & interacted here or in philly for generations. Philly itself is very much like this if you look at individual neighborhoods. DH is mostly catholic. The public schools are not great and many families, even ones of modest means, send their kids to private/catholic schools. Like other places in Delaware county, the taxes are somewhat high... not sure what kind of local taxes you're used to paying so it may be cheaper than your area - that's all you. Like indicated above, some areas are more desirable than others, and crime will tend to vary accordingly. Housing prices are stable and haven't grown or declined much over the years.

The food is great in the deli & pizza shops - I love it when I need to go through that area for whatever reason. You can pick just about anywhere to eat and it's great

Pilgrim Gardens is the best choice as they are Haverford schools - check out Havertown as well.

That part of DH is very Catholic but Haverford schools are very good so Catholic school seems silly for lots of reasons...

Upper Darby schools are going down the tubes, especially at the high school level - you should just move outside of the district and avoid having to move or private school down the line...
