So I'm going to be moving to the Chester County area soon and I'm in Downingtown almost every other weekend because my boyfriend lives there. One thing that's always a staple for me to find when I move to a new location is a produce market, which I always have difficulty just looking up on the web.

What I'm looking for is sometimes called a farmers market, but it's not the kind of farmers market that's held outside on specific days in the spring to fall season that have only select local produce. I mean the farmers markets with actually storefronts that have a wide range of produce that's for the most part, available all year, and are DIRT CHEAP compared to grocery store produce. I know there are farmers market stores that emphasize local, fresh, organic, etc, but to be perfectly honest, that's not THAT important to me, and they're usually more expensive than grocery stores. Often ethnic markets will suffice, though they don't always have as wide range of a selection. I'd love to know where some good ethnic markets are too, though.

I'm in the Downingtown area for now, but as we don't know where exactly we'll be moving to when his lease runs out in the fall, other locations in the area might also be helpful. Thanks in advance!

That sounds like Produce Junction in Exton:
Produce Junction Inc Offices - Exton, PA

Great prices but - they only take cash! And, you have to pay separately for fruits and veggies, which is a pain. They also have great prices on plants and cut flowers.

I know what you are talking about. There was one in Downingtown. When the owners wanted the Amish to stay open on Sunday the Amish left and the mart closed down a few years later. If you go west on the 30 bypass you'll see similar places. I think Morgantown still has one. We used to visit the used book shop there.

When we lived in Downingtown 20 years ago there was a wonderful farmers market. It had the first Auntie Anne's pretzel place. I thought it was gone, but just found this: Downingtown Farmers Market In case that's not what you are looking for, this might be of interest:- Booths Corner Farmers Market | Located in Garnet Valley Which is about 20 miles away from Downingtown, just south of West Chester. About ten minutes from that though is Trader Joe's, (5605 Concord Pike,Wilmington, DE 19803) so you could potentially hit both spots in one shopping trip.

There is a great fruit market close to Bradford Heights area, south of Downingtown proper...Highland Orchards We used to love their apples and cider.

Produce Junction sounds exactly like what I'm looking for, thanks!

I think the Downingtown Farmer's Market is more of the traditional farmer's market, I'm looking more for a store I can go to at any time, but thanks for the recommendation. Booth's Corner is out of my way for now, but I'll keep it in mind if I maybe end up in the West Chester area.

Even though its not exactly what you are looking for, if you are out and about near West Chester on the weekend I'd highly recommend the West Chester Grower's Market on Saturdays. 8-1 I think. Its good stuff!

We used to walk there every Saturday morning when we had our apartment in the borough. Now we moved to a house in West Chester, not right in town, and my work has a free bottomless fruit basket, so I just eat that instead

The West Chester Growers' Market is really nice...but the OP is looking for dirt cheap, which the market is not. However, what you give up in price you'll get back in freshness. I saw veggies there last weekend that looked like they had been picked that morning!
