My requirements:

Budget:
$150k to $250k

Location:
Shortest Commute to South Philadelphia/Center City, but w/ good school district, and a littler lighter on the taxes (if possible).

Extras:
3-5 bedrooms, 2+ baths.

LOW CRIME, if possible.

You may have challenges in the Mainline at that price point, Maybe some areas around Media, similar commute time

You may be better off renting as that kind of money will get you a 2 bedroom condo most likely. Check out Chesterbrook townhomes for great schools etc..not sure on the cost though...

For that kind of money, Chesterbrook townhome will get you the best neighborhood and schools. Otherwise you're looking at a single on a busy road...

I trust what you say about Chesterbrook...but it would mean a trade-off for a much longer commute to the city than, say, Media as previously suggested...

...although the OP's budget may not warrant more than a TH or one-level SFH in Media, either.
