I have always wanted a pot bellied pig and have heard they are quite smart and can even be litter trained. I really want to get one, but have also heard the horror stories. Anyone out there actually own one?

Internet is great to reserch this. Also check you local laws to see if you can even have one in your area. Do you really have room for a 150 pound creature in your house? Tearing up the back yard? Making mud? Cleaning up after it? Room to exercise? If you do the research and answer yes...then good luck. Pigs do make great pets, but my mom drew the line on being inside.

I have a very good friend who got one. She thought it was going to live in her house. While it is very sweet, it is also very noisy very early in the morning (demanding breakfast!). It grew up to weigh several hundred pounds. It now lives in her barn with 3 other pot bellies who were purchased by folks who thought they were going to keep it in the house but who do not have barns for them to live in now that they are done growing.

I used to have the daughter of a friend living with us. She wanted one of those soooo badly. I did a little reading and after that knew it couldn't be in the house. Although it says they can be litter trained they evidently don't have much control over their bladders and often just let it flow while eating or drinking where ever they are....that was totally the deciding factor for me. So if you have a farm or large property that you can put in a heated barn to keep them in then why not, but in a house I don't think it's a good idea. Good luck.
