I'm a sole proprietor. I've been using Turbotax for several years.

But Tax Cut looks cheaper.

Just wondered what other people were using...???

We were using Turbotax but in the last couple of years started using Tax Cut. We usually run our numbers through both to catch possible errors and see how consistent they are. When they both converge on a similar answer we call it good enough.

But this year we're probably going to take it to a service because of the complexity of things that occured this year. (ie changed job, sold house for a loss, moved, bought another house...and some other shtuff too).

I did my 47 page return on Taxcut-
Rentals, businesses, 1031 exchanges, stocks, options, farm, deferred gains and losses...

Quite honestly I'm not impresses with either... I've just been using TaxCut long enough to get over the frustration. I despise any software that forces you to follow a series of inputs (Like being led to a slow death by a MicroSoft dog (tutorial)). Business plan pro is the ultimate disaster. Just give me a spreadsheet or form that allows me to fill in the blanks, not lead me through an 'intelligent interview'

(End Rant)

I think for $99 you can have a professional do it for you through Turbotax. Am I mistaken on this? I seem to remember this being an option last year.

I don't know for sure. I think there were some deluxe options but we didn't get into it. Ours was simple enough that it didn't warrant any further effort.

I've used Turbotax the last 7 years and have been happy. No issues from the Feds, I'll continue to use.
