i think anyone with an 800+ fico should be proud.

my issue is that i'm just really darn lazy when it comes to paying bills. my fico is usually in the low 700s. i try to set up auto pay for all of my bills but a few just don't have that set up so i end up paying late, etc.

What bills don't have autopay features?

You can use Mint Bills app to manage bills.

I have 800+ consistently for well over a decade.

For me its simply being responsible with debt. Every Sunday morning after my paycheck hits the bank, I check my budgets and pay my bills. Its not that difficult.. but I keep my stuff simple. No more than 2 credit cards and when possible pay things annually (rather than monthly).

I have people tell me that they too can't keep up with all the bills... part of the problem is that they have too many! Too many credit accounts. Too many revolving subscriptions.. etc.

I highly recommend Mint.com. I used to do things manually (spread sheets and old fashioned checkbook register software). Mint (and the like) brings all my accounts into a single view and works against my custom budget. It saves me loads of time on those Sunday mornings. I have also called companies to adjust my billing date and most will do so. I group them into 1st and 2nd half of the month bill buckets. One comes out of my 1st paycheck... the 2nd out of my end of the month paycheck. I have considered autopay but I fear the whole "out of sight, out of mind" phenomenon when it comes to billing.

I think the credit score you're getting from Wal Mart (Synchrony Bank) is your Transunion FICO (Discover does this, too). Trans Union gives the highest score of the 3 major credit bureaus. I think most lenders go by your Experian score.

You should get your score from all 3 bureaus just to see how they compare. They charge around $9 each for your report and score. It's a good thing to do once a year or every six months just to see how things are with your credit.

You can also visit MyFico.com where you can get a lot of information on your credit scores, etc. It's a great site! But don't sign up for the $24/mo credit monitoring; it's ridiculous and unnecessary.

Those scores from the credit bureaus for $9 a piece are guaranteed to not be FICO scores. FICO score reports don't cost less than $15. Go to Myfico.com to make sure you get actual FICO scores.

Discover card tells me mine every month (okay, Transunion, but still...)
It's been hovering from 800-804, but a few months ago it dipped to 796. I started looking behind my back, turning my collar up, grew a mustache, anything I could do to avoid behind picked up by the Credit Van. Once they pick you up, you end up slaving away at a huge telemarketing center or a collection agency, harassing others who are also trying to avoid the Van. You can't rent a decent place, and employers will ban you from their premises. You have to lease everything from Rent-a-Center and survive on Payday loans.
Luckily, I'm now back to 800. But I feel like I'm walking on thin ice!

Around 850 maybe? It always differed given who was giving the score, but all the percentiles were similar around 93% so I was very happy.

Up here in Canada..we use Equifax and TransUnion ..and I have never ever been below 800..Never had debt load I didn't pay..BUT about 15 years ago..my son went out to try and get a loan and found he had a glitch..Turned out it was His father's BAD credit rating that directed his...They both had same name..BUT obviously different birthdates..I stepped in and complained..provided ID info to backup my issues..and voila..Credit score reflected it...

Having said all that..Those folk who only use cash..never borrow money..never utilize financial transactions..will NOT have a Credit Score worth it's salt when attempting to procure a loan....It's something I tried to educate my boyz about..but I fear many want to just live pay as you go lifestyle..which is a good thing..But unless you create transactions to reflect your debt habits..Any loan above 500.00 will be rejected if there's no record....Thought I would point that wee Tid-Bit out ..

So how do they say they are your FICO if they aren't?

And how do you get your actual FICO score? The only thing I've seen on MyFico.com is a way to get your monthly scores from Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union. Granted, I haven't read the entire site, but if there's a way to get a score directly from FICO, I would love to know. Also, most lenders use your Experian score to determine your credit worthiness.

Give me the link to a website where a company sells a FICO score for 9 bucks.

The 3-view report on the products page of Myfico gives you FICO scores based on 3 bureaus.
