anyone use a bluebird account? i set one up so i can use my credit card to load it and pay bills out of it. i noticed that the vanilla reloads are all sold out in the store i think id be able to buy them with a credit card. so the next option is debit cards. can i buy any debit card in a store to load to the bluebird account? i think i should be able to get one at a place where i have 5% cashback on certain categories as long as they will let me use a credit card to buy the debit cards.

I just realized that the best bang for my buck for this would be grocery stores where I get 6% cash back on purchases. so I will need them to let me buy a gift card with a credit card and id need to be able to load it to my bluebird account.

A bigger question is whether you can buy debit cards with a credit card. Most types of debit cards accept only cash deposit.

Yeah, I've never seen a place that let you buy prepaid debit cards with credit. Given, I don't like that much either. Occasionally they're used in promotions or what not and I buy some, but other than that I never do. Reward debit cards exist, but they're about as rare as hen's teeth.

I was at the supermarket today and I asked if I could buy visa gift cards with a credit card. I was told that I could. however, I was searching the bluebird site and it says I can load up to $1k a month using debit cards. so even if im successful, that amount is too little to really cover much. I checked out a cvs by me and a walgreens by work and both were out of the vanilla reload cards.

Wonder where Amex is in the swipe fee struggle. The retail industry feels it is gouged by financial companies.

so here is a new question, can i purchase $500 visa gift cards and then aggregate them into 1 card? so if i can put together a gift card with a $10,000 balance, i can use bill pay services to pay with a debit card and pay my mortgage, car payments, etc.

You can use Google Wallet to combine gift card balances.

im not really familiar with google wallet, but i see i have an account where there is an expired credit card of mine. so i guess i used it to pay for something at some point. so im gonna go to the grocery store and buy 2 $500 visa gift cards (i think 500 is most i can get in one card) and then the idea is that i should be able to load that to the google wallet to have a balance of $1,000 to spend?

ok, so I haven't done anything at this point but from my research; this is the best I can figure. the goal is to maximize cash back rewards. I do that successfully on everything that I can put on my credit card; but im missing out on bills I cant (or the fee makes it unworkable). so here is the idea:

Buy gift cards with my amex blue cash preferred card at grocery stores, 5.95 fee for $500 card, 6% cash back reward
transfer gift cards to my google wallet account for a 2.9% fee
transfer from google wallet to bank account to pay bills

basically, that would mean im netting a little under 2% cash back when all is said and done. it seems annoying but not super inconvenient. am I missing something?
