I would venture to say that is near impossible to answer.

Joe,

While I agree with the above poster that it's tough to know...certainly by your early thirties it would be a very good goal to have $75-100K net worth, and double or more by your late 30's. and by mid-forties, $300K+ would be a optimal IMHO. That's just my personal opinion...

I guess I'm a total loser then...

I think a better question is what are your goals for retirement and how far do you need to be in your 30s in order to get there?

So net worth would be assets - debts.

So to have $100K in total net worth, that means you have $400K in your bank account/stocks/401K and only owe $300K on your mortgage.... right?

While I think that'd be awesome. I'm sure there's absolutely no way that is the AVERAGE net worth of someone in their 30's (the poster's question).

i would venture that the average net worth of someone in their 30's is a NEGATIVE number. (Since we dont' save..)

I would venture that it's negative, too !!!

Even if someone is ahead of the game and owns property, they are carrying a mortgage payment -- in addition to a car payment, credit card debt, etc...

Makes me wonder how many people are actually worth anything?
