Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me find some information on a John Walker born 1941 in Lincolnshire UK.

I believe he may have travelled with his mother Mary Walker (born c1917 uk) on 23 May 1951 on the ship 'America' to New York. Their destination was listed as 17904 Ingleside road, Cleveland Ohio.

Could anyone help, or let me know if there is a genealogy society in Cleveland that may help me... or any information on this area of Cleveland in the 1950's... or hopefully a location for John! (wishful thinking!)

I'd be very grateful for any thoughts, big or small... it all helps build the picture.

Thanks

Jo

I've just found a business listed at the address I'm searching on:

Adaptive Control Technologies...

If anyone from the firm is reading I'd love the possibility of hearing about the building, or any photos?!

Thanks

Jo

Here's a forum for Cleveland genealogy...

Brad's Cleveland Genealogy Forum

One for Cuyahoga County...

Also, have you tried the LDS church? The Family History Libraries are amazing resources. You should be able to find one near you.

Many thanks for the info and links - much appreciated!

Don't think we have LDS church nearby but will look into it, would they still be able to help with me being in the UK?

Have just tried the top link and when I try and post, or try and search it directs me to a site called 'Tripod' picture sharing! The posts on there go back quite a while so maybe it's no longer in use.

Will try the other one!

Go to google.com. Click on Maps. Put the address in the search bar and click "search." When the address appears on the left of your browser window, click it. When the map appears, you can click on "satellite" to see the area, or "street view" to see the front of the building. It looks like a plain but well maintained older apartment building on a street of older apartment buildings, less than a block from Lake Erie.

If you put the address in either google or msn search, your city-data post is the first hit, so please check back on this thread occassionally because anyone searching that address will see your post.

The building is on the historical register, listed as a residence, built by architect Harry Cone in 1922. Cone

The phone and address of the Cleveland Landmarks Commission is on that site, and you could contact them for more information.

When I put the address in a records search, I get 4 unique residents.. 3 younger men and one couple in their 90's. Probably one of the men is using his home address as his business address, which you found. When I cross-check the older couple, I find the husband has passed on, and a reverse search of the old phone number shows it as unavailable. The other residents are in their 30's so I doubt they'd have any knowledge of your relative.

If you can get a birthdate and middle name for John Walker, we may be able to trace him.

I found the ship manifest for the ship America. John Walker, born in 1914, not 1941. Age listed is 37. Departed Southhampton Feb 18, 1951. Arrived March 6, 1951 at NY harbor. Traveling alone. British citizen. One piece of baggage. Cabin class. Listed as married. Destination 17904 Ingleside road, Cleveland Ohio, in care of a person named "Cameron." Mary is not listed on the manifest. Perhaps this is the father/husband?

Ok, found the manifest showing John, age 11, born "about 1940," and mother Mary Arriving on 23 May 1951 and going to the same address as above.

Hi - thanks for the messages

John was born 12.01.1941 and his middle name is Edward - his father was Norman Edward Walker, born 30.12.1920 and his mother was Mary Grace Williams born approx late 1920/21. The 23 May 1951 is the crossing I found... They were all from the Lincolnshire area of the UK.

Will take a look at Google maps, be interesting to see. The couple you mention in their 90's, do you have any names? Mary Walker would now be 88 if still alive, makes you wonder? Is this property split into apartments?

Thanks for your continued help!
Jo
