It's someone I knew in high school back in the mid-60's and all I have to go on is a name, the high school they graduated from and the probable year of birth. Is there any one database for the entire country that doesn't want you to pay a membership? Where would I start? Thanks for any input you can render.
Ancestry.com has a 15 day free trial and would probably be your best bet for starters. Also Classmates amy have some info also. If your high school firend registerd with them then you may be able to hook up directly with that person. Also have you tried to 'google' their name.
also, there are various sites (there used to be one named something like intellius.com) where you put in a name and state, and you'd get back dozens of replies. it's kinda scary, how much people can find out about you in such a short time. if you can't find intellius, just type in your friend's name (in quotes) and the state you think they lived/live in. probably some of the first few ones that pop up will be some kind of search engine like that. then, click on the likely ones. they'll give you some names, then you can search in a "white pages" search engine for more specific stuff.
Thanks much for your replies. One site was very helpful--it gives the maiden name, the married name the state, and the age (in most cases, but not always). But there were something like 250 returns. She has a common name it seems.
Here's my thought: if I could check property records for that year I might pull up her parents. With those names I could narrow the field considerably. Then I'd get a middle initial (if she has one) and with that narrow the field even further. From there I could enter birth, death and marriage records (unless she married out of the country) This is beginning to sound more and more hopeless. (sigh) I don't want to check all fifty states separately. Is there a national databank of vital records for all 50 states?
First, have you tried Facebook? When a woman joins she also has the choice to enter her maiden name with her profile so that old friends can find her. Have you looked for other people who were freinds of this person? I'm assuming the person you are looking for is a woman Who were her male friends? Look for each one you can remember on Facebook. You are bound to find at least one.
A good FREE site for locating people through court and deed records is BRB.
Keep in mind that not all States or even counties offer the same level of access to records. Free Public Records Directory
Looked up that web site, boy do they have my information wrong and then they want a fee to see further.
Which website are you refering to? BRBPub offers free public records and if you come across a fee site, like some court records, it usually warns you.
