Wanting to Move to Fort Walton Beach or Surronding Areas (real estate, 2015)

My DH and I have been considering moving to FWB or any of the surrounding areas hopefully the beginning of 2015. We have friends that reside in FWB. I've been searching for relevant information on the internet and haven't really been able to find anything current. I was hoping someone could answer a few questions?

DH is officially retired. I am a LVN for the past 13 years. I specialize in corrections and drug/alcohol rehabilitation. We have no children. Will it be difficult finding a position for me? What is the economy/market like there now and potential for the future? Of course I can do other types of Nursing if needed. Though I really do not prefer Nursing Homes or Pediatrics.

We are currently residing in West Texas. The job market here is booming especially for oilfield and service related work. Housing right now is at a premium and rent is beyond outrageous. We currently have a house with a mortgage and it probably has good equity in it. I looked on Realtors.com and noticed housing prices in FWB to be much less expensive than here. But, from reading some comments it didn't appear that some people agree. I guess it's all relevant to what you are accustomed to. We are not interested in a house with a yard, but more interested in a cottage or condo with a small patch of grass/outdoor space for a bar-b-cue grill and a small dog. No stairs inside or out.

We were hoping to move without me securing a job first and then me finding work within 2-3 months. I think with savings we could do that, but not for any longer.

Was also interested in any insights, web-sites, links, pros or cons in making this decision.

You can search for for homes with various options.

Here are the tax officies for the two counties. You can search by address, home owners name, etc. Bunch of info from these two such as taxes paid, what they show the value of the property is and what it last sold for and much more.

I have vacationed in FWB, but do not know about the neighborhoods. Have more experience in Santa Rosa county.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'm more concerned with securing a job in that area. How difficult would it be to get a LVN position?
