I was asked to interview in the Wellsboro/Mansfield area.

How does one get to Mansfield by air? What's the closest decent airport--by that, I mean served more than twice a day, and has rental car agencies? Because if I moved there I would be flying out with some frequency for vacations.

Well the closest international airport is in Harrisburg,PA. there is an airport in Elmira,NY that has service to either Philly or Detroit. There is one in Williamsport that has service just to Philly I think. Both Elmira and Williamsport are about 1 hour away. And there is another airport in state college, which is about 1.5 hours away, which has flights in the east and midwest. I don't know about car rentals. All of those would have them.

I traveled a lot in my previous job, both domestic & international, and live near Mansfield. My favorite of the closest airports was Elmira/Corning (ELM), which is about 45 minutes from Mansfield. Ithaca (ITH) is the closest with direct service to NYC. Binghamton (BGM) has the same connections as ELM plus United, direct service to DC-Dulles.

I would advise against Williamsport (IPT), the only airline is US Airways and the only connection is to Philly. There is no competition in W-sport and the fares are consistently higher. But I am also biased against US Airways since they have lost my luggage 100% of the time I ever had to use them.

For international, when it's me paying...I drive to Newark (3.5 hours) and leave my car with friends near there (cheap fares, best options for direct flights). The int'l flights almost always leave in the evening or later, so it's never been an issue. For work, I would either fly from ELM to Detroit or they would have me go to Syracuse (2.5 hours) SYR has all of the major airlines plus JetBlue. There are multiple connections to JFK and Newark daily, along with many other US cities.

Are you coming to teach at MU or do you work in engineering?

It would be MU. Thanks for all the answers--it sounds a lot easier to get out of Mansfield than Denver!
