Wow, sure looks different, but what's with the giant parking lot? From what I can tell, they tore down the old Boston Store and Halle's, as well as the theater (see how many years it's been since I've lived there?) I like the concept in that they tried to make it look like a more walkable plaza with sidewalks and shops. If they are including more upscale shops, it will be a good complement to the nearby Colony Plaza so that this part of town can have a more boutique feel with chains that pollute the garish Peach Street.

I hope it works out with the Plaza. It was baffling to see it decline so sharply. I bought my first formal gown at Benson's dress shop.

At one time, Trask's department store (or as my dad used to say, Trasksksksksks) was across Pittsburgh Avenue at Eighth Street, not technically a part of the Plaza; it closed either when the company was bought by Carlisle's, or later when the mall was built.

A lot of people I know are eager to shop somewhere other than Peach Street, and eager to shop at something other than big box stores. It would be nice to see the Plaza thriving again.

Today, Voodoo brewery announce that they will be opening an Erie location in the Boston Store downtown. The new pub will be located in the retail space that used to house Under the Clock restaurant.

Voodoo Brewery is located in Meadville, PA and is a very popular brewery in NWPA. They plan on having several beers on tap as well as a local, but limited, menu of food.

Personally, I think this great! The city of Erie has many great local breweries and it's good to see the space in the Boston Store (which has been vacant for 3 or 4 years) is being put to good use.

Will the Voodoo have a street front presence? I can't imagine it would be in the middle of the first floor under where the real clock used to be?

Nice! Outdoor seating will really be a selling point. I can't imagine that this would take up the whole floor, since it's so big. Are there other shops and restaurants on the first floor?

The old Sidewalk Café (24 N Park Row) that has been closed and vacant for years, is finally getting a new tenant. The owner of Coconut Joe's, 28 North Gastropub and Resolution Nightclub (right next door), bought the space and is converting into "The North Park Diner". Renovations are currently underway.

In addition to this, the East Perry Sq. renovation was completed this week and the updated fountain is just beautiful. LED lighting, new water features and it sprays 2x higher...

We were in Erie last weekend visiting family and saw the fountain. What a great improvement over the old one. It's much more user-friendly and there were little kids running through it having fun because it's all at ground level. Lots of families in both quadrants of the park having a nice time, too. What a change from when I went to Gannon in the 70s when Perry Square was kind of a no-man's land with outdated stores around it and the Cine 70 porn theater next to the Richford Hotel.
