Still searching for our ideal area to live & raise a family. We do not have any kids yet but are planning a family. And we are seriously considering leaving NJ and moving to PA.

We are in our late 30's. We want a nice, quite home in farm/rural area; we are looking for acreage (2+) for our horse/chickens, etc. We are not interested in a heavily wooded area. We have no problems getting stuck behind farm equipment on a road (we are used to that in our area now) and have no problems getting caught in Amish carts "traffic" on a road.

Hubby has a potential job in Bethel (he's a trucker), and I am a secretary, so I'm sure I'll be able to find some kind of p/t job. We want to stay fairly close to where his job is (hubby is willing to drive up to a 45 minute commute to work). If we stay in Lancaster County or surrounding areas we can still be only a 1.5 - 2 hour drive back to my parents in NJ, which would be nice.

Hubby & his family are New-Order Mennonite <but his family are out in another area of PA that we don't want to live in>, and so we want to live near the Amish/Mennonite areas near Lancaster County, or surrounding areas that are Mennonite/Amish, but not in the heart of tourist areas. We are just not sure what areas we should start looking in.

Any suggestions as to where we can begin our search for towns that fit our criteria?

Thanks~

Talking Lean toward 183

There are two huge warehouses going up in Bethel area, so, yeah, there will be lots of jobs that will pull from Lebanon County, Lancaster county, Schuylkill County and Berks County. Lots of trucking jobs for sure. Bethel is kind of "back of beyond" to me (and I live in the country), so for YOUR secretarial job prospects, may I suggest you lean toward Route 183 Between Strausstown and Bernville. You're still mighty rural, but you are not that far from the business parks near Berkshire Mall, St. Joseph Hospital, and lots of stores.. maybe 20-25 minutes. But you're 15 minutes from Bethel proper.

Blue Marsh Lake is nearby Blue Marsh Lake and the area is a mix of farms, and state game lands. Come check it out (and bring your swimming suit and stop at Blue Marsh to cool off).

Good luck!
