ALL that firm but gentle persuasion and all those time-outs may have been a waste of time - you really should have been smacking your children.

At least, that's a theme of NurtureShock, a US bestseller that will enrage the touchy-feely school of parenting.

Add me to the "I was a kick-ass parent before I ever had kids, but then my first little bugger was born and I realized how clueless I had been" club.

John, the link isn't any good, but I knew all along that a quick swat is more meaningful than a 1000 word essay to a toddler or young child.

Amend that to say I meant the clueless parents who think they know it all.

I just want the book out that recommends what to do as the parent is on the cell phone as their child flies down the grocery aisle in those forsaken Hurley shoes....& my child says "Can I get those?"

Thank you for reminding me the title of the book, I've been meaning to purchase it after reading it in one gulp at the bookstore.

Once more science "catches up" and just comes to confirm that all the hocus pocus, "latest and greatest" approaches to just about everything, in the face of hundreds, if not thousands of years of "otherwise" wisdom - are never without serious negative consequences.

On the other hand, you will have the die-hard, "recent-in-the-mind" people who could be presented with whatever empirical evidence you wish and then some, in addition to tradition; they will still cling to the "feel-good", politically correct approaches because the media and "the experts" have done too good of a job on them since the 1960's.

It is a great book bringing the sparkling truth all the way out. It just takes getting out of denial to see it and accept it.
