SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- A baby born in San Francisco has six perfectly formed and functional fingers and toes on his hands and feet, say doctors at Saint Luke's Hospital.

That's a tough one. If it were me, I'd be bummed at my parents for not doing that when I was born. Kids have it rough enough as it is, especially nowadays. They can be so cruel to anyone with far smaller differences.
One the one hand, its kinda cool, but then think about math - when you're little and you're counting on your fingers and you go past ten - is the kid going to be hexadecimal Rainman or what!?
Our two year old that we have adopted was a Foster child when she came to us at 2 weeks had an extra didget on each hand. It was smaller and did have a nail. The birth Mom who is also the birth Mom of our 6 year old is a big time drug user. The PS people forgot to tell me about the fingers and it was a surprise. They removed them right in the office. She has a little scare as they were like connected to the side of each pinky
As perfect and beautiful as those extra fingers/toes are I wouldn't even think of touching them. They are not a unsightly or a horrible site. This child is unique so let it be! He is beautiful!!
Even though the pictures seem to look just fine, what I would be concerned with as a parent is the unbalance in using fingers correctly and it not feeling clumsy holding pens, crayons and utensils down the road. With extra toes, there will also be a life long proper shoe fitting problem. So, I don't know, I would be torn, but I would probably address the issue now....instead of regretting it later.
If you grow up with these extra digits I would have to think it would become a natural thing....no unbalance no clumsy feelings...that's just my personal opinion but it seems pretty normal that this child would learn to not even think of this difference as a problem. As far as shoes...well I have horrible feet and have always suffered finding shoes but it wasn't because of extra digits. I personally do not see a problem for this child or I am sure the Dr.s would definately say something instead of saying he is blessed!! I just think he is "special"!
I wouldn't ever amputate on my child if they were born with extra digits.
The risks of surgery are not worth it only to make them look the same as everyone else.
What a special little boy!!! The parents should be proud
