Sorry to hear you are going through this. What a bummer for you and your daughter. First, I would talk to my daughter and let her know that she did good by telling the teacher and nurse that she is not feeling well. Next, take all your documentation with you to the meeting w/the principal, put it in writing that you want to be called if your child is sick and include your phone numbers. Is it possible for you to do some volunteering so the teacher, principal, nurse can see you there and get to know you better? Also it may help your daughter knowing that you go every once in a while. Keep us posted.

Since when does the nurse not call the parent when she/he feels the child is sick? Why is it up to the teacher to decide if this is necessary.
I agree. I don't understand why the nurse didn't do her job. There is no way the teacher should be calling you about this.

Until the teacher becomes qualified to diagnose illness, she should not be the one to decide whether or not a call home is warranted. Any time your child steps foot in the nurses office, there should either be a phone call or a letter home (if it's minor cuts and bruises). Whenever my son went to the nurses office, the nurse called us and told us if she thought he was ill enough that he should be taken home (fever, diarrhea, excessive coughing, etc), or that he didn't feel well, but was at my discretion whether or not I thought he should try to stay at school or if I'd pick him up.

You have permission to become the parent from hell on this issue.
