It's bad enough the amount of prescription drugs advertised on TV on a constant basis, but from about 9AM on Sundays, there have been Cialis and other erectile disfunction drugs advertised, then it goes all day and into the evening. I've noticed it during primetime as well.

Who wants their young children learning about erectile disfunction (erections in general) from TV?

To add to that, around Christmas and Valentine's Day, there have been commercials for lubricating jelly during times when children watch, or are around. Those commercials have women making suggestive statements and behaving seductively to lure men to the bedroom.

My daughter is old enough to see how inappropriate the sex commercials are, but what about the younger children who may be playing in the living room while Dad is watching the game on Sunday afternoon? Or the young one who watches early primetime TV (granted, there isn't much there, but still).

I don't have cable, and neither do a lot of people, so there aren't a lot of options. We've always enjoyed the Sunday morning news program and following political discussions, not to mention some of the sports in the afternoon, but it's sickening to see the drug companies making money selling sex while children are watching TV.

It isn't that children should be completely sheltered from the facts of life, but broadcasting it on national TV isn't exactly appropriate.

What do you think?

I agree completely. We also don't have cable, (though we have to do something about this analog TV nonsense-- we already lost 2 of our 6 channels) and the things that they show on the non-cable stations appalls me!

Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you. Just wanted to say that you are not alone!

LOL...if you think our commercials are bad, you should see the commercials played in Europe!

Honestly, with the sex in the soap operas I think our complaints about ED commercials would fall on deaf ears. We've happened upon soap operas with naked people in bed, a whose the daddy scene played out, and other crap. There is so much inappropriate stuff for kids on TV these days you couldn't even begin to identify it.

Once I heard something on ABC family that I couldn't believe. I cant remember which show, or what it was, but I was shocked. All I took from that incident is that even if its a "family" channel---don't count on it being appropriate for children.

My 3 year old pretty much watches PBS when home alone, or DVD's, and later when my son comes home, she does get the drake and josh, zack and cody, wizards of waverly place etc... I'd rather her not, but her brother can't only watch clifford and dragon tales at age 7.5.

It's a lose lose situation. Get rid of the tv, to me that sucks. Keep the tv and get stuck with the crap that comes with it.

My son watched PBS till he was at least 5. He had no idea who sponge bob and the rest of them. Once he started to figure out how to use the satelite system and read, that's when I had to let him watch other stuff (plus, he was getting older anyway).

You're right about the programming being questionable, but when you're watching something that should be family friendly, and they throw in a Cialis commercial or lubricating jelly for Valentine's Day, I call that inappropriate.

We have control over what programs we allow our children to watch, but we have no control over the timing of the commercials that come on. Who would think, that in the middle of Sunday morning, there would be an erectile disfunction commercial on, or all throughout tennis or golf all afternoon.

You do have a choice--get rid of the TV. We have never had it and we don't miss it. We will watch movies on the laptop. My husband listens to the games on the radio or internet. A few times a season, he will go to the bar to watch a Packer game.

You don't HAVE to let your kids watch any television at all.

Can't take a 14 year old into a bar to watch tennis or golf.

It's personal choice. It's not that you don't watch anything, you just watch it on something other than a tv in your living room. We choose to have a tv.

We don't have cable so we watch alot of movies. I really, really, really hate network TV. There are to many commercials that I don't like. The only way you can impact what networks are showing is to call the sponsors (commercials) and complain..then refuse to buy their products. Well if it is the darn sponsor, who do you complain to? Maybe the ratings board in your state? I don't know. I have called the local TV Network and complained, not that it did any good.

Not much of a TV watcher here, but when I do watch TV I tivo the shows I want to watch so I can fast forward through the commercials. I hate those Cialis commercials with the people in the bath tubs - what the hell is that all about??? And I really hated those Enzyte commercials with that dumbass Bob guy and his pathetic looking wife. Oh, and Valtrex - she's got herpes (or syphillus or gonerreah, or whatever!) and he doesn't. I think by now we've all got the picture - we can go to our doctors if we need any of these wonderful drugs for our sexual ailments.
