I was told as a child if you sat on the street with a bottle of Dr pepper , someone in a car would turn up and steal it.

If you swallow watermelon seeds, a watermelon would grow in your tummy.

I was told that when a mommy and a daddy love each other a WHOLE lot and they keep wishing, pretty soon God will plant a baby in the mommy's tummy.

Didn't find out until much later what "wishing" really was.

There were a ton, I think its a fad that is dying out...lying to your kids to get them to do what you want or for fun.

The one I remember the most was based on my personal aversions. I was really sensitive to texture while eating. So I was often told that what I didn't like was the most healthy part of my meal. Chicken skin, bread crust, mayo, brown spots in bananas...and on and on. I actually grew up believing that a bagel with a slathering of cream cheese was more "healthy" then a plain one. And tuna with mayo was healthier then just plain tuna from a can.

I get the urge to lie to kids...but I cant bring myself to spout off lies to make my life easier.

"No decent white woman should ever be seen in public with a man of a different race." -- my father, when a Korean college classmate drove me home and walked me to my front door. This was one time when Father didn't know best.
