When you were like 16/17 and thinking about your future , how many children did you see yourself having?

Zero. I never felt the least bit inspired by them. However, I did want at least two huskies and a horse.

We're expecting our fifth, now. Husband is allergic to basically everything with fur, so no animals.

So much for that plan...

I've always wanted 5. Now I'm approaching 30, have none, and don't expect to have help from either my SO or I's family (and, as he's the only child of low income parents, he expects to have to help them significantly as they age).

I'm hopeful that we'll be able to afford two, but even that will be pushing it financially unfortunately.

I hear you. We have zero help from family either. It took a while to get used to doing all the childcare on our own, with never even a night out while the kids were with the grandparents... but after a while, it just becomes the norm. Financially it's a different matter. If I wasn't able to stay at home with the kids, we'd never be able to afford daycare.

I wanted at least 6, because I enjoyed having a lot of siblings (I'm the youngest of seven), and I loved thinking of names for all those kids.

I have 3, and that is absolutely my limit.

I always thought I would have two. Decided one was enough.

4-5.

I hoped to have two girls, then two boys. I had two girls, two boys, and another girl.

None. I always knew I could not be a parent. Good for you all who can.
