Fortunately, my kids have dropped watching the live action Disney shows. They much prefer cartoons like Adventure Time and Teen Titans, which I watch with them because they are hilarious for adults too.
My kids are big now, but even back when they were little, the current kid's TV shows ticked me off. Idiot parents, whining and more whining and "sassy" (bratty imo) girls were the norm.
We've always had Netflix and they watched a lot of the old shows. There are tons of old sit coms from the 70s, 80s that are entertaining, family-friendly and actually model good behavior.
Educational programming is good too, but never any of the kiddie documentaries in which the speaker does ridiculous baby talk. "Ooooh..Look at this reptile. Can you say reptile? This is a snake! Ooohh silly slithery snake! He he he!" Ugh.
We don't "ban" any shows. They're in school until 3:30ish, and then they do homework. After homework they read for at least 30 minutes, and then free time. That usually means play games, read, draw, or watch something.
There were/are shows I am "meh" about, but none I ban. My 11 year old tends to watch a lot of our shows. She started watching House at 10, and Buffy and some of my favorite shows from my adolescence. She loves anime and the CW shows we watch (Arrow, The Flash, etc.) My 9 year year old watches a lot of the same shows as my oldest.
My 6 year old likes the superhero shows, LEGO shows, and generally whatever is on Sprout.
Old ones like Brady Bunch and Wonder Years are still good. New ones like Wild Kratts. When kids were babies, they loved Yo Gabba
