My mother saved my letters from summer camp because my handwriting was so bad she couldn't read them and she wanted me to decipher when I got home. Sorry to say my handwriting hasn't improved.
I love the difference between what this Mom imagined would be the first letter home and the actual letter.
My son went to camp one summer when he was about 8. He came home and told us all about what an amazing and fun week he had. Couldn't wait to go back the next year.
When I unpacked his trunk I found an unmailed letter that said "By the time you get this, I will be home. I am leaving here tonight by lake and will walk home to you.
I remember writing letters to my parents desperately asking for them to spring me from summer camp. The counselers read all letters before mailing them and refused to send mine, so during "visitation" day I pleased for them to take me home which they did. They also got a refund. Outdoor school on the other hand was fantastic!

A friend of my son went to a week long language camp when he was about 8 years old. He had a great time. But his mom was horrified when he came home and she discovered six pair of clean underwear folded up in his suitcase just liked she packed them. Apparently he wore the same pair of underpants, day and night, from Sunday when they dropped him off until Saturday when they picked him up.
