I probably shouldn't be concerned, but I'm just wondering. My eldest daughter has always been in the 90th percentile but around 6-7 she dipped down to 80th (she was measured at the doctor's office). Does that mean anything? I must admit that her diet isn't nearly as varied as her sister's -- she doesn't really care for meat (even though she eat small amounts of it)...most of her protein is from cheese and milk products. She REALLY loves fruit. I think she'd probably be a vegetarian when she gets older. She is pretty lean.
I didn't ask. It was noted and nothing was really said. I guess that's because it's normal to go down and up on a growth chart throughout the kid's life?
A little change like that is normal as long as the curve on the chart is still going up, it's only when it starts to make a straight line for a couple of measurements (showing there's no growth) that there is cause for concern.
It means absolutely NOTHING. The difference between 90th and 80th percentile is very possibly just due to the accuracy (or lack thereof) of the technique of measurement used in the office. Don't waste a second worrying about it. If you had to buy her new pants this fall because the ones from last fall were too short, you're fine. Dropping from 90th to 80th percentile at this age is truly nothing to be alarmed about.
Totally normal. Growth charts are made from averages at all the different ages, and people grow in spurts and wind up in all different shapes and sizes.
That's not much of a change at all and nothing to be concerned about. My oldest was in the 90th percentile until around age 5 and then she started to move down. At age 10 she is now 30th for weight and 50th for height and dr was not concerned at all. She said as long as there is growth year over year, nothing to be concerned about.
My son had to go to the doctor twice in one week about a month ago. They measured him both visits and were an inch apart. I'm thinking he probably didn't grow an inch in three days
So accuracy and just normal growth patterns, I wouldn't worry a thing about it.
Don't be concerned, who cares if it means anything or not...kids are all different, growth charts for height are stupid...all you have to do is look into the family and see the genetics....tall parents=(usually) tall children...short parents=(usually) short children etc.
