Well, it's good to stop using tech toys at home and while on vacation. But wearing mid 80s clothes and sporting a mullet, or losing a business partner sound extreme to me.
Less is more, but nothing is, well, too much.

So, it's ok to use 1986 technology because that is what they grew up with . Change people, it's not evil. If they are giving their 2 year old an Iphone to play with it's not the fault of technology....it's a parenting issue...and wth kind of name is "Denton" . How about going back to living in a cave and hunting animals with a knife....

You always here about a couple of families doing stuff like this every year, but this one takes the cake. I mean doing it to the point that you actually lose business is beyond extreme. Or this one "The couple even refused to look at photos of their newborn niece on a relative’s iPhone." And I mean really, how hard is it to place restraints on the amount of time a toddler, and a 5 year old can use a ipad?

I think it's a dumb idea. Taking it to the extreme of wearing 80's clothes and hairstyles and moving to an older house sounds like the father is hoping to get a reality tv show about his lifestyle. He's not doing his kids any favors though...they need to learn how to balance the use of tech toys with real life interactions, not be raised as if tech toys don't exist. Both of my kids were using a computer at school starting in kindergarten and I think that's probably pretty normal everywhere.

You know I would have more respect for them - not that they need my respect- if they lived this way indefinitely. But to experiment for 1 year shows-to me- a real lack of understanding of what they are doing. All it takes is to tell the kid- NO you are going outside- NO you will not play with the ipad. It's called discipline and it would serve their children better than a 12 month experiment. I think it is possible to integrate modern technology and healthy family dynamics without eschewing all technology. And how in the hell is doing away with their coffee machine teaching their children anything? Why don't they do away with running water and electricity too!!

I'd be more impressed if they were living like it was 1886.

Considering how much technology was available in 1986, including microwaves and the VHS videos mentioned (they can also record with a VHS machine) even home computers, it doesn't seem like much more than "look at us".

If one of the kids gets whacked on the head playing sports my guess is they won't turn down an MRI at the hospital. And I'd guess they're not saying "no" to getting their power off a computer-controlled grid or driving a car with computer controlled systems.
