or in similar words, why celebrate any holiday? I mean seriously. . .
Easter and its bunnies and chocolate, a decidedly pagan origin to a barely Christian event (at least these days). The same can be said of Christmas or almost any holiday we mark. . .born of someones idea to celebrate something for some reason.
"The modern holiday of Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia. She then began a campaign to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday in the United States."
Anna went on to hate what mothers day became (commercialized) just as many people hate what Christmas became. . etc.
Why do I celebrate holidays then? Because its an excuse to do something nice. . . its fun. Kids love it.
