Maybe a small fish tank. That is fun. And you can keep getting different fish. We had one for years...with guppies. The kids cleaned it on Saturday mornings...

We got them Muse magazine but they didn't pay much attention to it. they both went on field trips lately and seems like they were the only ones without handheld electronic devices. but I hate to get them something which makes them any more plugged in than they already are.

keep up the good ideas. and many thanks
For the Wii - Just Dance 4 is out recently and that's what my preteen nieces are asking for. We always get at least one new Wii game and the kids can all play together at the same time. Not sure about your budget, but Rock Band has been a great family investment. The kids love taking turns on the drums, guitar, and singing on the microphone.

Don't kids make wish lists anymore? I would ask my kids to make a list of items (varying price range depending on budget) and circulate it within the family to make things easier on everyone. They never got everything they wished for, but the things they did end up getting were things they wanted. Saves having to go through all the returns/exchanges after the holidays.

can't get them to make lists. they say it is too early but I tell them Santa needs his list early this year. one DD says she doesn't have a present list just a "wishes" list and I swear it really is for world peace, no starving children, shoes for every child, etc. We do what we can and include her in our charity giving list but I want some presents under the tree. Maybe closer to christmas she can think of something.

I loved horses when I was a kid. In fact, I had a whole collection of plastic horses and I read every horse story that I could get my hands on. Having my very own horse would have been a dream come true. But a 2 hour horse riding lesson was a pretty awesome experience - one that I'll never forget.

Do girls still go through the "horse phase" now?
