It's not easy at all. This person would not be able to write any program that would be able to figure out who is hiding behind a screen name.

I doubt anyone knows the real statistics because i have not seen any studies dealing with the unrestricted internet exposure of tweens. But given my sister is that age, and has friends that age, i can safety say none of them are just given a free pass to browse online. Parents have safety blocks on the computer, computers in public areas, routinely check behind them, and pass through the room often.

A fair knowledge of a high order programming language like c++ along with knowledge of internet protocols. But given i have never heard of someone tracking someone down due to their ip, i imagine it's fairly hard to do.

Or worth doing. Internet security is a myth. Over time, you say things, similar things. Stories that I have told here, I have told elsewhere. Scrape and compare... It would take some heft raw processing power. My comfort is in the knowledge that my life is far too boring for anyone to ever bother trying.

I think really that is just it basically, it's not worth doing. Most kids are not given the type of access for pedophiles to sit around and stalk them. And the type of kids that are generally have absent parents in one way or another. But most kids at that age are not browsing the net with no restrictions.

Kids are actually safer since they don't have enough history to have established conversational patterns across sites.

I don't see how "conversational patterns" can out someone on a site.
