WAY over the top. I don't like mom pulling the autism card either, but if that's the only way she can fight this by claiming a "protected class" then so be it.

If it were me, I would recommend printing up enough "Free Banana Man" t-shirts so that the ENTIRE school shows up wearing them and then they all refuse to take them off (might also be worth it to plan the day and have local TV news cameras around, schools just LOVE all that attention). Just to put a little salt in the wound, have ALL the kids bring bananas for lunch. Call the bluff. What are they going to do punish the entire school for engaging in a little freedom of expression? Are they going to make everyone attend Satruday school? Are they going to place everyone on suspension?

No, they will have an assembly about it. At that point every kid needs to start chanting "FREE BANANA MAN" and refuse to stop. At that point they will call a meeting of the school board or a general meeting at the school to discuss the issue with parents. Have ALL the parents show up in the same t-shirts and after a representative reads the "Free Banana Man Manifesto" (that includes a demand to change the school mascot to Banana Man) have all the parents start chanting "FREE BANANA MAN" and placing bunches of bananas at the feet of the school board.

...they'll cave faster than a house of cards in an earthquake.

Is that Boomer enough for you Dew?

An excellent start, Goat.

Someone will have to chain themselves to the doors of the school library in protest and we'll all lock arms and have a sit-in and refuse to leave the premises. Then, when they read the announcement that we're all under arrest, we'll go limp and refuse to cooperate and make The Man carry us to the paddy wagon. Proper protest songs will have to be sung. (I'd suggest "Give Bananas a Chance".)

I will join you in the protests. Overkill, overkill, overkill.

The school has an opportunity to use this as a "teachable moment" and look at the history of protests, Gandhi, Kent State, sit-ins, Boston Tea Party, etc. Instead they're quashing creativity and expression. Grrr. Of course, none of that's on the test, right?

I just had tea trickle down my chin because you made me giggle so hard.

This seems so extreme on the schools part. I'm on Team Banana Man.

Kids should bring banana's to eat as snacks every day. And Peanut Butter and Banana sandwiches.

Oh, wait... peanut butter is banned from a lot of schools these days. Ugh.

Everybody should wear yellow.

They did bring bananas, but the principal made them all throw them out. Everyone wearing a "free banana man" shirt was giving Saturday detention and made to take off the shirt.

What was their reasoning for making the kids take off their shirts?
