It's fun to read the naming threads on this forum and I find it interesting to see that names that were once considered old lady names by my generation are very popular now. Names like Sophia, Grace, Hannah, Olivia.
It makes me wonder if some of the other names that are very outdated at this point will become trendy in the near future.
A couple of names pulled from another thread were Ethel and Myrtle. What about Mabel or Edna? Do you think those names could become trendy again?
I like some of the old names, I could see myself naming a child Clara, or perhaps Della.
Would you pick a name from the past like that in an attempt to give your child a rather unique name? What would you pick?
Don't forget the boys' names. "Henry" and "Jack" are very popular right now....
I don't see Edna, Myrtle and Harriet making big comebacks...Mabel always makes me thing of that TV show in the 90s with Helen Hunt....can't think of the name....they had the baby and named it Mabel...and said it meant "Mother Always Brings Extra Love".....LOL
Hmmm... I don't really think of boys names going in and out of fashion the way girls names do. But I suppose they do, I haven't met many guys with names like Forrest, Milton or Wilbur lately.
So fifty years from now some young mother is going to be horrified when somebody suggests she names her baby after Grandpa Jaiden?
"Oh no, not that, it sounds so old fashion!"

LOL... it's going to be a real hoot in 70 years when all of the "aylee's" and "ayden's" are seniors. "Come on kids, let's go see Grandpa Brayden!"

I agree that boys' names don't tend toward the trendy quite as much as girls...but when was the last time you heard about anyone named Augustus? Or Gilbert Or Hiram? Even what were common names when I was growing up (akin to "Linda"): Joe, Tim, Tom, Philip? You are much more likely to hear: Colton, Jacob, Blake etc.

I always thought Stella, Madeline, Emma, and Ella were old lady names, but they all seem to be getting popular again. I don't see Esther, Mabel, Betty, and Norma making any comebacks, but who knows?
For boys names, George, Edgar, Edwin, and Bernard are names I haven't seen in anyone under age 50. At my DD's daycare, most of the boys have the timeless kind of names like Robert, Charles, Nicholas, Daniel, etc. Caden and Aiden seems to be a new popular name for boys. There's two of each in her class.

Lol. I wonder what the parents were thinking with some of the names given these days. I hear a baby boys name and feel bad for him because I know how hard his high school years are going to be. I wonder if the parents have even thought about the kids actually growing up and the name not being a "cute name for a baby" anymore?
