Which 'old fashion' names next? (daughter, grandma, mother, generation)

I never thought the name Vivian had a nice ring to it, until recently. I've always liked the names Emma, and Emily.

The name on my grand mother's birth certificate is Alexia, which is Alice in Latin. You'd think Alexia was a new name.

There are some amazing names that come up when you shake the family tree. Still, I'm glad we didn't do that during my last pregnancy, as I would hate to think an excess of pregnancy hormones might've led to naming ds Elmer or Angus.

LOL! Between our two families, we have Elmer, Adolph (he was born in Sweden well before WW II), Ivar, Hjalmer and others for males; Viola, Lilian, Philaphena, Lena, Hazel and other gems for women.

I don't have a particular love for the former fad names such as Lilian, Evelyn, Vivian, etc. I do like the old classics.

I think of "Elizabeth" as one of the few "classic/old-fashioned" names that has never lost popularity.

"Michael" and "David" are both very old names that have also never gone out of style.

I also wonder if we'll see an increase in "Catherine" and "William" due to the young royal couple's popularity.

Afraid so....lol That's just the tip of the ice berg in the names around here. There's also Serenity, Cadance, Treasure and the already mentioned Princess.

The one that takes the prize (to me anyway) is Kdyn. Yep, that's how it is spelled. I have to guess it's pronounced the same as Kayden and perhaps they have an aversion to vowels? lol

Oh and speaking of names from the family tree ....one in ours is part of one of the posters screen names here....Dewdrop. Yep, a grandmother up the line somewhere was named Dewdrop.

My father's middle name was Ignatius. He was very proud of it. Fortunately, my mother prevailed when naming their seven children.

She must have been the sweetest, nicest, most caring gandmother ever. And beautiful. She must have made men swoon everywhere she went. Probably a good cook not to mention a fabulous housekeeper. And kind to animals too!

(I hope to heaven she wasn't a grandma who did 10 to 20 in the State Pen for running bunco games out of her basement.)

What's next?

Maybe less frilly names for girls?

Olive instead of Olivia.

Alice instead of Alyssa.

Isabelle instead of Isabella.

I don't know what's next but I do know that whatever names people think WON'T EVER come back into fashion (first page..Ethel, Maybel, etc) already ARE. Even Edna, my own grandmothers name, is being mulled over by someone, somewhere who thinks it sounds "fresh". I've already heard of two Hazels.

One day, Linda might even come back. These names that are making a comeback are names from my parents' and even grandparents' generations, e.g. late 1800-early 1900s.
