Someone recommended Good Mood Tea (St. John's brand) for a toddler who's very energetic and impulsive. Let me know if you have tried and how is it working. Thx

I do hope this is not serious.

Of course, in the 19th century, they used to give kids laudanum and opium to shut them up.

That's what I said. But wanted to see if perhaps other people have heard of this practice. It was displayed to me as if this is a "common" thing that parents do. I've never heard of this and other than talking to my kid and give her goal charts and a few other tasks, I think I'm good. I just wanted to know.

Supposedly the tea is better than just flat out medicating them with drugs?

How bizarre & absurd.

My kids drank various teas when they were young but mostly as "elixers" when they were sick. Great grandma's old brews. I waited until they were teenagers for herb teas on a daily basis and we never drank St. John's Wort. I tried it myself a few years ago (hippie dippie herb dealer on Sunset in Hollywood) and didn't think it did a darned thing.

yeah, ive never heard of it.

i give my kids tea (like chamomile) for an upset tummy or sore throat, but not to 'calm them down'

my 4 year old is a loon. non stop from the minute he wakes up till the minute he crashes at night. as i 'speak' hes swinging like a monkey on his bunk bed.

yeah. a loon. LOL

Never heard of it, and I love herbal teas. I could see the merit of a calming tea in the evening (instead of warm milk with honey) to help a toddler sleep, but St John's wort is pretty potent.

I found the teas (like Sleepytime) made them pee a whole lot more than warm milk. Once the 5-year old is up for the 4th time before midnight, you're swearing off the herb tea.

Despite being "natural", giving someone St. John's wort without a doctor's supervision could be dangerous, and even life threatening - especially for a toddler. I suggest you find other ways to channel the energy.
