What are your thoughts on kids younger than age 13 having Facebooks? My two oldest (13 & 15) have one, but I moniter them pretty regularly. Both of their profiles are completely protected as well.
My 10 year old son has been asking for awhile if he could make one, and I'm saying no- occasionally he plays games on my FB account (which I'm fine with) but I see no real reason why he needs his own account.
personally, i think facebook is reasonable at 16yrs old. 10 is ridiculous. 13 is young. 15 is pushing it.
Do you have teens? The reason I ask is because almost all of them have one- not that a teen needs something "just because everyone else has it" but I think you'd be quite surprised to find out how many kids 12-16 have one.
My daughter is 14 1/2 and she doesn't have FB. I feel she is too young. With her schedule this year w/ band, riding and studies, I don't see where she'd have the time, unless it took her away from reading. She hasn't even asked for one, even tho alot of her friends have one. She can keep up w/ them just fine by texting them. I have an account, and she has gone on mine to play a couple games in the past.

Lisa, While I agree w/ you about kids and FB, it's hardly Facebrag. My nieces (both in their 20's) encouraged me to sign up so I could keep up w/ them. I do not live close to family, so I'm able to keep up w/ lots of them this way. Since joining, I've hooked up w/ several high school friends, work friends, cousins and 2nd cousins I haven't seen in years. My settings are private and I only share w/ friends and family. My friends and family look forward to me posting a pic of one of my pets w/ a cute caption on my wall. Please don't call it Facebrag if you have no clue about how it can be used.
I think 10 is pretty young. I let my 11 year old use my FB account if he wants to send a message to family members but he does not have his own. I think my older boys were around 13 when they got their own FB accounts.
I know many people who have a page but rarely use it. My son is one of those. It is a great way to keep up with your friends but I can certainly see how it could become addictive. If you have a chance see the Social Network movie. I read somewhere about a huge percentage of teens check it out 3-8 times a day and spend hours on it. I would never allow that for anybody still in school.

You are very right. Luckily, my girls haven't been eaten by the "Facebook bug" and really only go on a few times a week to upload pictures and check their messages.
