I live in a small town. Once a week the local free newspaper is thrown on our driveways and people grab it and read it cover-to-cover because they print what is, basically, all the gossip. We had some grafitti, which included a few names, and they put a photo of it on the front page. Right next to the phone number to call if you knew who "Cindy-Lou" was.

I have an idea this father's first thought was to teach his daghter a lesson. And if it included some public humiliation he probably thought that was OK too. BTW: There are some tremendously affluent people here. The "free babysitting" would be beside the point. People up here would be calling the dad to #1) Congratulate him on his parenting #2) Book baby-sitting time to help good-old-dad in his efforts to straighten out his daughter.

I doubt she'll be a repeat-offender.

This.

I never read the paper, except the community one. There is no way to find out what is going on except by reading that paper. It's nice to know about festivals, games, that sort of thing.

Offering someone's services without their consent and without pay? I thought we abolished slavery oohh over 100 years ago?

A lot of highschools now are even requiring 'volunteer' work for kids to graduate. How is it volunteer work if they don't want to do it?
