Gift certificate for a good restaurant...that's always a safe bet. But then again, I don't know how well you know him/her, so that could make a difference too (if you know the things they really like/already have).

Or a GC to a good local wine shop. Liquor store. I guess it depends on how well you know this person.

I use these sites religiously for holidays. I put in my orders in last night for distant friends and my business partner:

- For my business partner and best friends, this site rocks - premium stuff and always on time.
Gift Baskets by Gourmet Gift Baskets: Wine Gift Baskets, Fruit Baskets, Corporate Gift Baskets and More

Sent my best friends kids some of these - delicious and always on time. They have corporate as well.

I don't think you're technically obligated to buy your boss a gift, but at my job we all chip in an make a charitable donation in her name for an organization that's important to her.

Yes the whole office is chipping in on the gift...but we already did the donation thing for her last year.

I mean we have done everything from gift cards....you name it but we just ran out of ideas

Thank you - good luck, hope you find that something perfect for your Boss, wherever you find it!

I'll use Harry & David and Dean and Deluca as well, if you can't find that one special thing.

Harry and David Gourmet Gifts, Gift Baskets, Fresh Fruit Gifts, Gourmet Chocolates and Monthly Gift Clubs.

Gourmet Food | Gourmet Gift Baskets | Fine Food, Wine, & Food Gifts | Dean & Deluca

Now all my gift sending secrets are gone. I need to get new ones now.

What type of things does your boss like...is he an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, skier, climber, hiker, etc? There are all sorts of gifts you can consider...custom engraved pocket knife, briefcase/messenger bag/backpack, gear for any of his favorite hobbies or pastimes (fishing reel, multi-tool, watch, hiking staff/stick, prepaid time on golf course). A fancy pen might be nice, or perhaps a gadget he may not have like digital camera, ipod, GPS etc. Does he smoke cigars, get him a box of his favorite smokes or bottle of his favorite scotch or wine.
