All the different kinds of flour.
Cake flour
All purpose flour
Bread flour
Self-rising flour
Organic flour
Unbleached flour
Not to mention whole wheat flour and stone ground flour.

It's enough to be a peeve in and of itself!

Is excessive isn't it?

Seems to be that way with many products now days. What ever happened to just a couple of choices? less stress for sure!

Now when I go to the grocery store, it takes me almost twice as long to shop as it did 20 years ago. I have learned to be very careful and read labels, no, not the back labels, the front labels.....so many products nowdays have many types of variations and it is easy to choose the wrong one if shopping in a hurry!

To say nothing about daisies, hibiscus, honeysuckles, iris, roses, lilies, lilacs, and sunflowers.
Flowers are always more trouble then not!

So true Alice. I use only one type for all my baking and chicken-frying. Cornstarch for the gravy though.

And the names are very misleading. I needed bleached flour one day to make some white bread and didn't have any. I used unbleached flour and went to the laundry room and added some bleach. I reduced other liquids accordingly. The stuff tasted awful.

Sounds like it is the right tool for the right job. Cake flour want make good pizza and pizza flour will not make a good cake. And to compound things more there is rye, oat, and barley flour in my cupboard.

Hmm.. I tried bleached flour one time but the taste of Clorox bleach wasn't too good in the bread.. I wonder if they make flour with detergent or fabric softener?..

Oh yeah........so many different types. I use just one for everything.

Reading labels is a royal pain in the butt too. Some times products can be decieving so you really have to check.
People are more aware today. some can't have gluten......others sugar, salt......alergic to nuts and so on.

I never heard of gluten a few years ago.
