...to get experience to get into/be in leadership positions?

The reason I ask is because I've heard before that it is better to begin while you're young. I've seen people younger than me (I'm 27, BTW) get into leadership positions because they've had such experience.

You need the "Gift of Gab"!! Who you know and socialize with seems to be most important from all I've seen. You may or may not deserve a position of leadership. Most in those positions are probably unworthy! Education!!

Leadership isn’t based on age; it’s a combination of things that makes someone a leader. Experience is great however it may not provide a positive value for a leadership position when others think about that person’s other personal qualities.

I’ve known some very good leaders in management who had no experience in doing the work that they had to be governing. They had skills that provided worker “motivation” in a “positive” way and produced the results the corporation wanted.

Then I’ve seen some “dumb ass” leaders who didn’t have any positive skills nor did they have experience in the business. Promoted to upper management leadership positions because they played socialized with the right people. The department and company failed to produce quaintly, and quality productions in an unsafe manner because they were the wrong leader for the job.

That's true. When I was a kid I used to run rings around all the other kids. They'd do anything I asked. A silver tongue is an amazing tool.

Yes, what AksarbeN said. I've seen it happen many times during my many years in business. And as Tek_Freek stated, a silver tongue is an amazing tool! This attribute has been valuable for a nephew of ours as well as our youngest son.

In addition to what has already been posted I would ask, do you now or have you ever taken a leadership role? For you to have success in that position you need to be comfortable delegating, disciplining, and acting the part convincingly with a show of product knowledge and or experience.
If its not a good fit you will be obvious to everyone and your success will be greatly limited if any at all. Know what you do, do what you say and always be prepared to show the way

Nope. In other instances, depending on the career field, some have leadership position as young as 25.
