Anybody go to the local festivals in their town?

I just got back from one that was pretty sorry. I have been to a few others, and am curios to know if anyone else goes.

I live in a rural are and every year our county has a county fair, pretty large...I don't go evey year, but when I do, I SWEAR I'll never go back. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just to hard to 'entertain'. The county fair draws a strange crowd, honest some of them look like they crawl out from under their rock once a year for this fair. God knows where they get the money to even go. People with gaggles of dirty kids who look like they don't have 2 nickels to rub together.
Then we have the local township fairs, they are usually a pit of dirt with over priced carnie rides run by carnies...a beer tent which draws a crwod that you would think you could only get beer 5 days a year. They will be there every night, drinking with their overgrown friends from HS, while their kids and their friends kids ride on the carnie rides and eat food that is fried all in the same oil from 3 years ago.
Well, that is my take!

Fur Rendezvous in Anchorage. Last 2 weeks in February and culminates in the start of the Iditarod.

Evey, what was the festivals theme?
I live in a tourist/fishy area so during the Spring/Summer/Fall months there is some sort of festival going on and most of the time more than one in the area. Yeah, I go. I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff.

I don't normally go to the one they have here anymore. It's full of pick pockets and evil people... Well there are more than just carnies there... But they are the worst of it lol.

This one was the Desoto Seafood Festival. I mistakenly thought there might be some good seafood. Mostly a bunch of street vendors, along with live music that would have Simon Cowell climbing the walls and a lot of fair food. All of the seafood was fried!

In the past I have been to a Sassafras Festival that had no sassafras, an Inter-Tribal Pow-Wow that had more white folks than native Americans, and a Chitli'n Strut that was at least entertaining.

I know what you mean about multiple things going on. There is also a big air show this weekend, and an Indy Car race.

lol, I know what you mean. Last month we had a Clambake Jazz Festival but WITH NO CLAMS! lol. Evidently in Jazz terms, 'Clambake' means a jazz session. As for the clams, well, that's a whole other festival. I don't know about everybody else but when I attend a festival, I want to see lots of sticky, greasey, gooey food......on a stick.

We have an awsome July 4th. Home brew comp, chilie cookoff, softball tourneys, rodeos, parades, street dance, more rodeos and a big BBQ that serves 800+ people.
