LOL @ The State of Mass Confusion..

I'm starting to think DC stood for District of Confusion, instead of District of Columbia.. though I have no idea what "Columbia" has to do with our nation's capital.

okay Mike,I'm going to bite on this one. Authority was established for a federal capital provided in Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution, which permits a "District (not exceeding 10 miles square) as may,by secession of particular states, and the acceptance of Congress, become the seat of the Government of the United States.

The federal district was named the District of Columbia,Columbia being a poetic name for the United States in use at that time.(now understand this was in 1790-1791)Congress held its first session in Washington on November 17, 1800.

Mike can't be expected to remember that. He was only 2 or 3 when it was written.

I remember learning that in history class when I was in high school, but like StudeDude said, there too much information to absorb these days as it is, nobody should be expected to remember everything. I still remember a number of things about high school.... mainly what year I graduated!

Back in the days when Congress held its first session, in the District of Columbia, I wonder if there were people that walked around the streets and asked Presidents Washington or Jefferson if they wanted to buy any domestic "Columbian"

Lol, I was looking for the category of State of Amazement....I'd have voted on that one.

I may live on the Left Coast now, but my old home was in the midwest.

One hears it said of Washington that it's a State of Mind...

There was a lucrative drug market along with prostitution down at 14th & K St NW,but I think in recent years they've cleared it up now,it's only taken a little over 200 years to do that.....
