In our newspaper today there's an add for a big auction for a Prominent Developer Estate Financial Restructuring of Assets. A Ferrari, lots of jewelry, etc. There's also a statement "Previously Deceased". Does that mean the owner is coming back alive for the auction? Hmmmm. (Insert Twilight Zone theme song here.)

Maybe he is a cat and has used two of nine lives! So he is previously deceased.

I'm thinking it means somebody died before the current owner of the estate.

The estate maybe is in probate if there isn’t a live beneficiary to receive it. Thus all assets end up going to the state and not to an individual.

Predeceased would be a more succinct way of stating “previously deceased.”
