You in, or will you hold out for the autumnal equinox?

Naw, it began at the beginning of August, Lúghnasa.

Are there any outside things you want or need to do
when it's not so hot and not so cold yet?

Buy some autumn/winter plants for the terrace off the den.

What was your last outdoor activity besides walking between a vehicle and building?

Just walking around a nearby neighborhood before the herd awakened.

Foodie Questions:
What kind of cookies do you wish you had on hand? argolinhos

If you designed your own candy bar or snack bar, sweet or savory, what would be in it?

A solid white chocolate bar about the size of Arkansas.

What was the last thing you ate outside?

A white chocolate bar, smaller than Arkansas though.

Just for fun:
They're for the kids or grandkids these days, of course. As a kid of any age, do/did you get
gum, toys, bouncy balls, stickers, etc. out of the machines at the front of grocery stores?

There may have been gum ball machines, but that would have been it.

How about a quarter to ride the horsie or the truck or other ride, didja ever?

Hmmm, the movie matinee was 20 cents, this other stuff sounds like real premium prices.

1976 Bee Gees - You Should Be Dancing Yes

Today’s Word:
diatomaceous [dahy-uh-tuh-MEY-shuh s] adjective

unicellular, marine or freshwater algae or their fossil remains

It'll never beat peanut butter

Today Includes:
Diatomaceous Earth Day
Eat Outside Day
Trail Mix Day

This Week Includes:
Chuckwagon Races Week
World Water Week

Today's Nostalgia Picture:
One last summer pic, this one of a dog patiently getting a bath.

I had a springer spaniel/collie mix for about twelve years, and he'd jump into any water we came across. He was always in the water. But bath? He acted like he was a victim of sadism. Of course, my mother always kept up a querulous running monologue like he was a disobedient four-year-old, which probably did not help.

I'm admitting that I'm the dumbest person around when it comes to this type of thing.....weather, global warming, the eclipse......I really have no interest.

Are there any outside things you want or need to do when it's not so hot and not so cold yet?
I don't have those choices. I work in all types of weather, year round.

What was your last outdoor activity besides walking between a vehicle and building? Yesterday, I measured a 3,500 sq.ft. house on the exterior and interior, then walked the parcel of land which was 4 acres. More of the same today.

Foodie Questions:
What kind of cookies do you wish you had on hand? My weakness, so I don't keep them around. Every week when we go the casino, I "sneak" a sugarless peanut butter cookie into my purse. Oh, Oh! A blue light-eye-in-the-sky is blinking over my table. Was I busted?

If you designed your own candy bar or snack bar, sweet or savory, what would be in it? Something with coconut and/or peanut butter.

What was the last thing you ate outside? Family breakfast party and parade watching on the front porch - Aug. 5th....Egg and sausage breakfast casserole, yeast rolls, fruit, yogurt, miniature delicacies, and mimosas......all before the parade came by.

Just for fun:
They're for the kids or grandkids these days, of course. As a kid of any age, do/did you get
gum, toys, bouncy balls, stickers, etc. out of the machines at the front of grocery stores?
No. It was my job at our mom and pop stores to fill those machines.

How about a quarter to ride the horsie or the truck or other ride, didja ever? No. Another job I had was emptying the money out of those boxes on the rides.

Thanks bjh! Hope you all have a wonderful day.

You in, or will you hold out for the autumnal equinox? It is rather cool today and the wind makes it even colder. I can wait for 3 more weeks but I am definitely ready for autumn..one step closer to snow

Are there any outside things you want or need to do when it's not so hot and not so cold yet? Gardening comes in mind, painting and cleaning out the garage one more time before winter

What was your last outdoor activity besides walking between a vehicle and building? Past weekend horseback riding, hiking and biking

Foodie Questions:
What kind of cookies do you wish you had on hand? Funny thing is I am not too crazy for cookies but love to bake them and give them away. The only ones I enjoy are the Christmas cookies

If you designed your own candy bar or snack bar, sweet or savory, what would be in it? I don't really know because I don't like them very much. Maybe a healthy granola bar with oats, flax seeds, variety of nuts, raisins, honey OR a granola bar with caraway and herbs.

What was the last thing you ate outside? Last night watermelon on my patio

Not really

Today's Seasonal Question(s):
According to meteorological seasons, autumn starts tomorrow! --->
You in, or will you hold out for the autumnal equinox? I'd hold out until next spring. I DO NOT LIKE cold weather.

Are there any outside things you want or need to do when it's not so hot and not so cold yet? Yep. I need to have the tire repaired on the 8n tractor that I use for mowing. That's only a $100 flat repair if I supply the new $350 tire and tube. I know that's cheap by most tractor standards but still a consideration for this retiree.

What was your last outdoor activity besides walking between a vehicle and building? ] I'm outside on most days but I guess the most significant thing I've done outside recently was to mow around the house and barns with the garden tractor after returning from NM and finding over 2" in the rain gauge and weeds and mosquitoes taking over the place.

Foodie Questions:
What kind of cookies do you wish you had on hand? Vanilla wafers.

If you designed your own candy bar or snack bar, sweet or savory, what would be in it? Caramel and chocolate for sure.

What was the last thing you ate outside? I had a cup of coffee while driving to the bank yesterday.

Just for fun:
They're for the kids or grandkids these days, of course. As a kid of any age, do/did you get gum, toys, bouncy balls, stickers, etc. out of the machines at the front of grocery stores? We have no gumball machines in front of the grocery store here because we no longer have a grocery store. However, my grandson used to always hit the gumball machines whenever we went out. He's sort of grown out of that these days though.

How about a quarter to ride the horsie or the truck or other ride, didja ever? I remember those things in front of the grocery stores (I believe it was a Piggly Wiggly store) as a kid but I can't remember ever riding in one. My guess is that my father-only-working, blue collar parents didn't think they could afford it. A quarter in 1955 is equal to $2.28 now!

Fun questions BJH. Thanks.

Today's Seasonal Question(s):
According to meteorological seasons, autumn starts tomorrow! ---> https://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/aboutseasons.html
You in, or will you hold out for the autumnal equinox? Doesn't matter much either way.

Are there any outside things you want or need to do when it's not so hot and not so cold yet? Mow the yard again. But the leftovers of Harvey are hitting us here in western Ky. tonight and tomorrow and dumping 4" of rain, so doubt if I'll do much outdoors. lol

What was your last outdoor activity besides walking between a vehicle and building? Went fishing Sunday. Notice I said I went "fishing" and not "catching".

Foodie Questions:
What kind of cookies do you wish you had on hand? Home made chocolate chip cookies!!

If you designed your own candy bar or snack bar, sweet or savory, what would be in it? Just plain chocolate bar.

What was the last thing you ate outside? A pork chop last night while I was grilling. One pork chop was ready before the other chops, hamburgers and brat burgers, and I didn't want to see it there all lonely and everything...so I ate it!

Just for fun:
They're for the kids or grandkids these days, of course. As a kid of any age, do/did you get
gum, toys, bouncy balls, stickers, etc. out of the machines at the front of grocery stores? Not very often. Parents weren't big on that.

How about a quarter to ride the horsie or the truck or other ride, didja ever? Every once in a great while. Same reason as above.
