Today’s Question:
If you saw a penny on the ground, would you pick it up:
Yes ?
No ?
or depends (for instance, on whether it’s clean/shiny or grimy/dirty) ?

Same question, different coinage:
If you saw it on the ground, would you pick up a nickel-
or a dime? Prolly.

Extra Credit:
If you read magazines, do you usually read an issue
for one or two articles or the whole thing cover-to-cover ? Depends on the magazine and how much time I have.

If you read books, do you usually read/refer back to just one section (small portion),
or are they books that you read from cover-to-cover (whole thing) ? Both.

Bonus:
Have you ever driven, or ridden in, an eighteen-wheeler (or larger) truck ? I used to be a trucker.
Have you “souped up” or customized a vehicle yourself ? No.
Have you attended a “classic car” show-or a “monster truck” rally ? Car show, yes. Truck rally, no.

Just for Fun:
Do you like:
taffy-soft or hard, neither or both ?
toffee-chewy or crunchy, neither or both ? Never heard of chewy toffee. Or it's so late I'm too tired. Crunchy toffee is good.

Do you use:
molasses/treacle ? Sometimes.
golden syrup ? Never

honey ? Occasionally
brown sugar ? ditto
white sugar ? rarely
and/or replacement/alternative sweeteners ? no synthetics

Oops... just realised my dinner is ready... hopefully I can get back in time to add my answers before the editing time runs out!

ETA - the roast duck (yum!) needs another 10 minutes... just time to answer!

Today’s Question:
If you saw a penny on the ground, would you pick it up:
Yes ?
No ?
Probably not - depends where I am and what I'm doing
or depends (for instance, on whether it’s clean/shiny or grimy/dirty) ?

Same question, different coinage:
If you saw it on the ground, would you pick up a nickel-
or a dime?
As above

Extra Credit:
If you read magazines, do you usually read an issue
for one or two articles or the whole thing cover-to-cover ?
The only time I ever read a magazine is at the doctor or dentist's office... usually only have time to read one article, so I pick one that might be of some interest.
If you read books, do you usually read/refer back to just one section (small portion),
or are they books that you read from cover-to-cover (whole thing) ?
Lately I've been reading non-fiction (mostly genealogical books), so I tend to check the index and find the chapters that are most relevant to me.
Bonus:
Have you ever driven, or ridden in, an eighteen-wheeler (or larger) truck ?
Possibly... when I was a teenager and used to hitch-hike quite a lot.
Have you “souped up” or customized a vehicle yourself ?
Nope
Have you attended a “classic car” show-or a “monster truck” rally ?
My Dad used to be a racing driver, and mad keen on cars, so as a child he dragged me kicking and screaming to a few classic car shows.

Just for Fun:
Do you like:
taffy-soft or hard, neither or both ?
I like them both, but my teeth/fillings don't.
toffee-chewy or crunchy, neither or both ?
Ditto

Do you use:
molasses/treacle ?
Nope
golden syrup ?
Occasionally use Lyle's Golden Syrup (an English brand)
honey ? Yup, sometimes.

brown sugar ?
Occasionally
white sugar ?
Nope - we use raw sugar for tea, coffee, etc.
and/or replacement/alternative sweeteners ?
Nope

Thanks cloven!

Happy Monday to all. Hopefully that duck is cooked now!

Extra Credit:
If you read magazines, do you usually read an issue

Happy Monday October 6, everybody-and welcome to QOTD.

Today’s Question:
If you saw a penny on the ground, would you pick it up:
Yes ?
No ?
or depends (for instance, on whether it’s clean/shiny or grimy/dirty) ?

Pennies hold a special significance with my family since the death of my nephew. I started finding them in really odd places since he died and I never carry cash. In my shoe in the closet, dug them up in the garden. If I was having a hard time, I will always find a penny and it makes me smile. In a poem I wrote for his funeral there were the lines, "A cool breeze on my face, a touch of light rain, you will give me reminders we will unite again." The pennies are the reminders. I was in a horrible car accident and when I walked back to my car to get my ID and insurance card there it was, a shiny penny on the driver's seat of my car with the year of his birth as the date. I didn't get killed or hurt and could have. I take all my found pennies out to the cemetary and put them on his headstone and let the lawn mowers blow them around so other people will find them and then they, too, get a bit of his love. My sister-in-law keeps them in a book I gave her and marks where she found them and what happened when she found them. Sometimes he leaves me dimes. I have a box I collect them in and if it's close to Christmas I dump all of it in a Salvation Army Kettle. When I pick them up from the ground or the aisle of the supermarket I always say, "I love you too James."

Same question, different coinage:
If you saw it on the ground, would you pick up a nickel-
or a dime? Always, see above.

Extra Credit:
If you read magazines, do you usually read an issue
for one or two articles or the whole thing cover-to-cover ? I only read magazines at Drs. offices and sometimes I'll have the receptionist photo copy a great recipe I come across.

If you read books, do you usually read/refer back to just one section (small portion),
or are they books that you read from cover-to-cover (whole thing) ? The whole book. I get addicted to reading and when I'm into a book everything else goes to hell around the house and I read it cover to cover and do nothing else.

Bonus:
Have you ever driven, or ridden in, an eighteen-wheeler (or larger) truck ? Yes, and I have a CDL which has expired. I worked for a company and managed 16 drivers. One broke down and another manager and myself went out to help. It was after 7pm on a Friday when we finally headed back to the office and I was somewhat forlorn. The guy said to me, "What's your problem, when was the last time you were out on a Friday night in a $100,000 vehicle?" That made me laugh.

Have you “souped up” or customized a vehicle yourself ? Nope
Have you attended a “classic car” show-or a “monster truck” rally ? No, just the Detroit Auto Show a few times.

Just for Fun:
Do you like:
taffy-soft or hard, neither or both ? Salt water taffy
toffee-chewy or crunchy, neither or both ? Crunchy with lots of peanuts

Do you use:
molasses/treacle ?
golden syrup ?
honey ?
brown sugar ?

I use all of the above when I make my own homemade BBQ sauce. Molasses is the key.

white sugar ? Yes
and/or replacement/alternative sweeteners ? No

Monday's Questions: October 6, 2014 Happy Monday October 6, everybody-and welcome to QOTD.

Today’s Question:
If you saw a penny on the ground, would you pick it up:
Yes ?
No ?
or depends (for instance, on whether it’s clean/shiny or grimy/dirty) ?

Same question, different coinage:
If you saw it on the ground, would you pick up a nickel-
or a dime? Sure. Either.

Extra Credit:
If you read magazines, do you usually read an issue for one or two articles or the whole thing cover-to-cover ? I've not read a magazine, even in a doctor's office, for many years but I only read articles.

If you read books, do you usually read/refer back to just one section (small portion),
or are they books that you read from cover-to-cover (whole thing) ? When I read one.

Bonus:
Have you ever driven, or ridden in, an eighteen-wheeler (or larger) tru
ck ?Yes. (See attachment.) That's my then very young daughter in the cab. Driving semis got me through my undergraduate program. We were hauling swinging meat in 40-foot "reefers" from the packing houses and loading it on train flats for shipping.
Have you “souped up” or customized a vehicle yourself ? Only my high school car and even it was just a boring 4-door. (See attachment.) After that, I went into the service, got married and had to drive really boring cars and trucks. The '56 Ford had blue naugahyde interior, a racing steering wheel, a Hurst shifter and Keystone alloy wheels (with whitewalls ).
I had rebuilt the Ford's Thunderbird V8 engine with a high-lift cam, big Holly carb and a few other goodies. My brother, who still lives in my hometown, tells me no one from high school remembers me but they remember that Ford.
Have you attended a “classic car” show-or a “monster truck” rally ? No monster truck shows but plenty of classic and hot rod shows. Love 'em.

Just for Fun:
Do you like:
taffy-soft or hard, neither or both ?
toffee-chewy or crunchy, neither or both ?

Do you use:
molasses/treacle ? No. My dad once took me to an old sugarcane syrup mill in deep east Texas where a small farm tractor was used to run the crusher, formerly run by a horse. Molasses always tastes burnt to me. I think the owner of that mill (I still remember his name) was one of my dad's cousins; but then who in that county wasn't my cousin?
golden syrup ? Yes.
honey ?
Yes. In my coffee every morning.
brown sugar ?
Yes.
white sugar ?
Yes.
and/or replacement/alternative sweeteners ? These I have to use anymore.

Of course I pick up pennies, or any coins. They add up.
Yes Ive ridden in and driven 18-wheelers, in my long haul days. Still have my cdl and who knows, may be utilizing it again someday, for the right job.
I do use honey, regular syrup, brown sugar and regular sugar, depending on what its being used for.
Back to work today, happy Monday~~~
