Morning y’all! Happy Independence Day
. . . . . Didja Know?
In 1958, a history teacher assigned Robert Heft and his classmates at Lancaster High School to
each redesign the national banner to recognize Alaska and Hawaii, both nearing statehood.

Heft added two extra stars to the flag to give it an even 50 and stitched his own design. His teacher
only gave him a “B-minus” for his effort, so he sent his project to President Dwight D. Eisenhower for
consideration and a change of grade.

Eisenhower chose his design personally and the new flag was officially adopted in 1960. His teacher
then gave him an “A” instead

I'm trying to figure out how there could be any other design to the 50 stars....but in even lines.
I guess circles could've been interesting....but harder to do.

I forgot that it was back in 1960 that we added the two states. Might end up with on 49 stars if AZ keeps it up, they don’t seem to want to be part of the united anymore. I like Ike he was a good president and military leader.

Good story.

We've got a 48 starred flag at work where Eisenhower spent some time.

I remember sitting on a stool next to Betsy Ross holding the thread for her while she was sewing the 13 stars on the original flag. That was a fun day, I got all choked up...
